Max Verstappen: Wins F1 World Championship
Verstappen secured his maiden World Championship with victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finishing second as the race ended in a nail-biting one-lap sprint after a late Safety Car, Formula1.com reports.
Analysis:
Hamilton jumped Verstappen on lap 1 to take the lead and set the pace for most of the event. However, a couple late cautions would mix up the pit strategy and allow Verstappen to get fresh tires. The final accident and cleanup would permit the Red Bull Racing star another go at Hamilton with fresh rubber. Race control would seemingly break with the rules and clear out the lapped cars to allow the leaders to battle for the win in a one-lap shootout. Verstappen would get around Hamilton and hang on for the win. He would be crowned a first-time Formula One champion as a result of the victory.
