Louis van Gaal on transfer window remaining open once season begins: 'Ridiculous'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal doesn't support the overlapping of the summer transfer window and the beginning of the Premier League season.

The window closes on Sept. 1, over three weeks after the 2015-16 campaign is set to get underway, inevitably allowing clubs to alter their squads well into the season and causing some disruptions among players who are being linked with potential moves.

Asked whether the upcoming summer transfer window will be among the toughest of his career, Van Gaal replied: "You can never say that in advance, because what I have said is it's a process.

"It's not so easy, because when you sell a player there are also three parties. The same when you buy a player and you never know which party is struggling or not struggling. It's also ending on Aug. 31 or Sept. 1 and that's ridiculous in my opinion.

"I have strived many times to change the transfer period. It has to be finished before you prepare your team for the season. Last summer we had the World Cup and then a lot of players came late in. We had a lot of purchase at the last month so we have to prepare our team in the Premier League and that costs us a lot of points. Now I hope we shall finish our business much earlier."

Van Gaal is already in the process of assembling next season's squad at Old Trafford, as United signed Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven in the first week of May.
