Rio Ferdinand on John Terry's season: 'Nothing short of outstanding'

Rio Ferdinand and John Terry might not be the best of friends, but that doesn't mean they can't respect each other's on-field performances.

With Chelsea one win away from clinching the Premier League title, Ferdinand praised his former international teammate in his column for the Sun on Thursday, claiming he can still admire Terry's abilities on the pitch despite their fallout.

The pair no longer speak after Terry was involved in a trial in which he was found not guilty of racially abusing Rio's brother, Anton Ferdinand, during an exchange of words in a match four years ago.

"It's no secret that me and John Terry are not the closest of mates," Rio wrote, according to the Guardian, continuing:

But just because we no longer get on does not mean I've lost my admiration for him as a footballer. His performances for Chelsea this season have been nothing short of outstanding and I'm not afraid to say it. John took the decision to retire from playing for England and had his reasons, but Chelsea are reaping the benefits.

John is finding, as I did, that the upside of being off the international scene is that your body gets the rest it needs which allow you to keep performing at the top-level well into your 30s. As I said, me and John are not pals but then again I didn't like a lot of things about Luis Suarez either, especially when he was biting people.

Terry was recently named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year due to his dominant displays at Stamford Bridge this season.
