PSV confirm Manchester United's interest in Memphis Depay: 'We have had a telephone call'
Fresh off their 22nd Eredivisie title and their first since 2008, PSV Eindhoven confirmed Monday that Manchester United have expressed interest in 21-year-old attacking midfielder Memphis Depay, who has notched 20 goals for the Dutch club this season.
The confirmation follows the recent admission from PSV sporting director Marcel Brands that Depay will likely leave Philips Stadion at the end of the season, and a move to United obviously seems logical as the youngster played under manager Louis van Gaal at the World Cup.
"We have had a telephone call from them about him," Brands said, according to the Guardian. "But no talks have been held. Several top clubs have expressed interest."
Liverpool are reportedly also set to compete with United over Depay's services, but Brands insists any club looking to acquire the Dutch prodigy will need a higher offer than the £15 million bid Tottenham Hotspur put together last summer.
"It will be much higher than the offer from Tottenham Hotspur," Brands said. "He will be very expensive."
