Radamel Falcao on scoring for Colombia's national team: 'That gives me confidence'

The international break served Radamel Falcao well.

Looking to briefly shelve his struggles at Manchester United, Falcao notched a brace in Colombia's 6-0 friendly win versus Bahrain last week and followed up the double with a goal in Los Cafeteros' 3-1 victory against Kuwait on Monday.

Of course, the performances marked a stark contrast to Falcao's situation at Old Trafford, where he finds himself on the fringes of Louis van Gaal's squad rotation and was recently sent to the club's under-21 side having only scored a single goal since the beginning of the calendar year.

Whether or not Falcao can translate his international form at the club level remains to be seen, as does whether or not United opt to turn his £6-million loan deal into a £43.5-million permanent move at the end of the season.

However, for now, the pair of friendlies have provided Falcao with some much-needed confidence.

"I think when I score it's always important and that gives me confidence," Falcao told Sport 360, as transcribed by the Guardian. "I said before I need minutes, I need to play games in a row and here in the national team I have had the opportunity. I gave my best and I scored and I now return to Manchester with more confidence."

United's next fixture goes on Saturday when they host Aston Villa.
