Chris Smalling says he'd be 'happy' to stay at Manchester United

Manchester United might not have to reject bids for Chris Smalling after the defender claimed he's intent on extending his stay at Old Trafford.

Smalling, whose contract is set to run out in the summer of 2016, has been the subject of numerous transfer rumours, including one south as Arsenal have been linked with a move for the English international.

But his move away from the club is looking less likely after Smalling and United voiced their desires to keep him at the club beyond next season.

"I am enjoying it. I always have, and if I can contribute then I am happy to stay for as long as they want me," Smalling told reporters.

For Smalling, there doesn't seem to be an urgency to get a new deal done while he concentrates on helping United get back to the Champions.

"I have not even really discussed it with anyone," he said.

"It's a case of the manager showing his faith in me and if I am playing I am happy and we have another eight games to finish as strong as we can.

"There aren't any negotiations (under way) that I am aware of. I don't really take care of that."

Smalling arrived at Old Trafford after transferring from Fulham. He's been an important fixture in the United squad and has appeared in 22 of the team's 30 Premier League games.
