Thierry Henry confident Arsenal won't become next Liverpool

While the trophy drought talks ended last May when Arsenal captured the FA Cup, attention turned to the team's Premier League drought.

The north London club have not won the league title since their remarkable unbeaten season in 2004, with the drought likely to be extended as they sit seven points behind Chelsea with eight games remaining.

However, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is confident that manager Arsene Wenger is close to molding the team into a title contender, and expects the club to avoid a lengthy gap like the 25-year span between trophies Liverpool have experienced.

"If I had told you in 1990 that Liverpool would not win the title in the next 25 years, you would have taken me for a madman. I don't want the same thing to happen to Arsenal," Henry told French publication L'Equipe.

"It's already been 11 years. This year, we're not so far off. With the exception of the first leg against Monaco, they are on the right track, but they undoubtedly dropped too many points at the start of the season. But I think this squad can win the title in the years to come."

Despite the team's disappointing performance in the Champions League, where they were eliminated over two legs by AS Monaco, the club are in the midst of a terrific run in the Premier League and FA Cup.

Winners of their last six league matches, Arsenal look to destined to secure a Champions League position by season's end. They've also reached the semifinals of the FA Cup, with hopes of advancing to the finals for a second consecutive season with a favourable semifinal match against Reading.
