John Carver on spitting incident involving Cisse, Evans: 'I just saw a fracas'
Saliva was exchanged on Wednesday as footage of Newcastle's 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United revealed that Jonny Evans spat at Papiss Cisse before the Senegalese forward retaliated with some spit of his own.
The incident, which went unpunished by referee Anthony Taylor but could still see the Football Association intervene, occurred in the first half.
Following the final whistle, Newcastle manager John Carver revealed he needs to look at the footage despite being aware of a quarrel.
"I am aware of the incident," Carver said, according to the Guardian. "I just saw a fracas on the halfway line. I need to look it."
United manager Louis van Gaal, on the other hand, claimed he couldn't see the incident from where he was sitting.
"I didn't see that from the bench," Van Gaal said. "It's too far to see spitting, so I cannot judge that. But I cannot imagine that Jonny Evans, because he is a very modest person, that he could do that. I cannot imagine."
