Ross Chastain: Subbing for Ryan Newman
Roush Fenway Racing has announced that Chastain will fill in for Ryan Newman starting this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the No. 6 Wyndham Rewards Ford. Newman was injured in a last-lap accident while leading Monday's Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and has since been treated and released from Halifax Medical Center, Roush Fenway Racing PR reports.
Analysis:
The journeyman driver will drive the No. 6 Ford Mustang in relief of Newman this weekend at Las Vegas. Chastain has 72-career Cup Series starts to his credit, and he will make a very capable fill-in for Newman in the Pennzoil 400. There is no word on Newman's timetable for a return, and no word on Chastain's potential to make more starts in the team's Ford Mustang.
