Cambridge players warned over swapping shirts with United: 'We're not wealthy enough'

Manager Richard Money insists that Cambridge United don't have enough money for their players to be swapping shirts.

Speaking ahead of his side's FA Cup tie versus Manchester United on Friday, Money stated that he's issued a warning to his players over swapping shirts with the Premier League behemoths, stressing that any player who does so could be forced to replace the shirt with cash from their own pocket.

"We're not wealthy enough to give any of our shirts away," Money said, according to ESPN FC. "If they give their shirt away they're going to have to replace it. Maybe the club will do it, I don't know, but I'm not going to do it.

"It would appear that in the Premier League they give their shirt away after every game - sometimes at half-time. I don't understand why a top class player would want another top class player's shirt at half-time. If one of our players was trying to swap a shirt at half-time you could understand it, but they won't as they wouldn't have anything to wear in the second half."

New shirts go for £39.99 at Cambridge's club shop, and for an idea of just how large the financial disparity is between Cambridge and Louis van Gaal's side, the Daily Mail published an infographic comparing the cost of each team's starting XI.
