Sam Allardyce confirms West Ham's interest in Darren Fletcher

West Ham and manager Sam Allardyce are currently taking a wait-and-see attitude concerning the availability of Manchester United's Darren Fletcher.

The West Ham boss confirmed the team's interest in procuring the Scottish midfielder's services, but says they have yet to speak with Fletcher.

"We've had no permission to speak to Darren Fletcher," Allardyce said, courtesy of the team's website. "He's got quite a few clubs interested in him so when he makes his mind up everyone will know.

Fletcher would be a nice addition to an overachieving West Ham squad as they hope to maintain their spot in the Premier League standings after an encouraging first half of the season. The club currently sit two spots back from a European position after accumulating 36 points after 22 matches.

Allardyce would like to know the club and Fletcher's position on the move sooner rather than later before it's too late to move on to alternatives.

"I don't know what the timeline is. If any of the other packages offered to him are accepted then we would accept that," he said.

"Or if they hadn't made their mind up or were negotiating somewhere else that would be it. We can't wait forever.

"I always think at this stage of the window, if you do get something nailed on you have to take it because you might end up with nothing if you don't."

While it's not clear where he'll land, the Scottish international may be eager for a move away from Old Trafford since playing time has been hard to come by. He's only appeared in 11 Premier League matches, failing to make a real impact on manager Louis Van Gaal's team.
