Liverpool CEO says Gerrard could return on loan from MLS

It will be an emotional afternoon on May 16, when Liverpool and its supporters say goodbye to Steven Gerrard as he appears in front of the Anfield faithful for the last time of the season.

However, it might not be the last time ever, as the club's chief executive, Ian Ayre, indicated the midfielder could return to Liverpool on loan following his move to Major League Soccer.

Gerrard signed with the L.A. Galaxy at the beginning of the January transfer window and will join the team in July. But with the MLS season running through the summer and concluding in December, the possibility of him returning to Liverpool next January is "conceivable," according to Ayre.

"The fact he's leaving doesn't mean it's the last we'll see of him at Liverpool," Ayre told Liverpool radio station City Talk.

He went on to say he and the club will remain in contact with Gerrard throughout his time in the United States, and hinted at a future role with the club off the pitch.
