Liverpool's Sturridge entering final stages of rehab

Liverpool received encouraging news regarding Daniel Sturridge's recovery from injury as the team continued its positive momentum into the new year.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed Thursday that Sturridge is in the final stages of his rehabilitation, but declined to specify a date for the forward's return.

“The work he has done in America has been fantastic, specialising in the rehabilitation and he will now come back – hopefully in some part of January," Rodgers told reporters, courtesy of Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph.

Rodgers went on to stress the difficulties of putting a date on his return.

“It is difficult to focus on a date, we just need to assess," he said. "We’ve been monitoring his situation and he looks in a good moment.”

The English international also provided his fans with an update through social media, revealing that he is traveling back to England following a stay in the United States to complete his rehabilitation program.

Do you think about me now and then. Do you think about me now and then.. I'm coming home again. #homebound #itscold!!!

Sturridge has been absent from the Merseyside club since Aug. 29 after suffering calf and thigh injuries.

Liverpool, currently enjoying an unbeaten run of five matches in all competitions, face a relatively favourable list of Premier League fixtures against Sunderland, Aston Villa and West Ham in January.
