Milner ready to sign new City deal

LONDON - Manchester City midfielder James Milner is on the verge of signing a new contract with the Premier League champions according to manager Manuel Pellegrini.

England international Milner, who joined City from Aston Villa in 2010, is in the final year of his current deal.

But the 28-year-old has played a prominent role for City this season, featuring in 22 of their 24 games in all competitions, and is set to be rewarded with a new deal.

Milner's future had been the subject of speculation due to his lack of starts last season, but Pellegrini is confident he will put pen to paper on the contract shortly.

The development comes after City's England goalkeeper Joe Hart admitted this week he was also ready to sign a fresh deal.

"Milner, I hope that he will sign also. We will see, same as Joe, in the next days," Pellegrini said on Friday.

"I don't know how many days before we can have this as official news but I suppose that also he will sign and continue here because he also wants to stay."

Pellegrini, whose side travel to Leicester on Saturday, first revealed that a deal with Hart was close a week ago but he could not confirm when anything would be finalised.

"It is very close, I suppose," he added.

"As you know, Joe wants to stay here. We also want him to be our goalkeeper so I hope it will be ready as soon as possible.

"I don't think that we are going to have any problems."
