Report: Manchester City looking to extend Frank Lampard's loan from New York City FC

Frank Lampard could be sticking around at Manchester City a little longer as a result of the Ivory Coast qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.

With Yaya Toure's confirmation in the tournament a near certainty following Ivory Coast's draw against Cameroon on Wednesday, City will likely be without their world-class midfielder in January. According to the Guardian, in order to fill the temporary void, the club will look to keep Lampard at the Etihad Stadium beyond Jan. 1, when his loan deal from New York City FC expires.

Manuel Pellegrini said in September that it may be possible for Lampard to remain with City for the entire season, an interesting suggestion given that the 2015 Major League Soccer campaign begins in mid-March. 

If Lampard continued at City until the end of May, when the Premier League season ends, he would miss a significant portion of NYCFC's inaugural campaign.

It's also worth noting that NYCFC could potentially hold a training camp in January at City's new Academy, which would allow Lampard to becoming integrated with the MLS side while remaining at the Etihad.
