Palermo president: Manchester City chose Balotelli over Cavani in 2010

Edinson Cavani or Mario Balotelli. Who would you rather have?

Manchester City had that scenario presented to them in 2010 and decided to go with the latter, according to Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini.

"I suggested Cavani to Mancini at Manchester City, but he chose Balotelli, and I told him I did not understand," Zamparini told tuttomercatoweb. "I thought Edinson was much, much better."

With Roberto Mancini at the helm of the club, City opted to spend 24 million pounds on Balotelli, who had a familiarity with the Italian manager from their time at Inter Milan. Cavani, meanwhile, ended up at Napoli that same year – a move that proved to be a quick stop on his road to Paris Saint-Germain.

While Balotelli has since moved on and is deemed by many to have been a failure at the club after scoring 30 goals in 80 matches, he did contribute directly to City's 2012 Premier League title – setting up Sergio Aguero's title-winning goal in the final match of the year against QPR.

That said, you can't help but wonder what could have been if City were able to secure the signings of both Cavani and Aguero  particularly considering the club's inability, so far, to find a viable long-term solution to play alongside the Argentine superstar.
