Bosnian national team doctor: Edin Dzeko's calf injury is 'very serious'

Manchester City has been relying almost exclusively on Sergio Aguero to score goals this season, which will make this news all the more concerning for manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Bosnian national team doctor Reuf Karabeg said Monday that striker Edin Dzeko, who joined his compatriots on Monday ahead of the international break, could be primed for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The big striker suffered a calf injury during City's 2-2 draw with QPR on Saturday, coming on as a second-half substitute and lasting just four minutes before heading right back to the bench.

'It's a very serious injury and requires the kind of treatment whose time-frame unfortunately rules out a quick return,'" Karabeg told the Bosnian football federation website.

While no exact timeline was provided, the fact that Dzeko could miss significant time at this point in the year is a big problem for City. The club is about to embark on the busiest portion of its schedule, which includes its most important contest to date - a Champions League match against Bayern Munich that will determine whether the Citizens have any chance of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.
