Darrell Wallace Jr.: Named to No. 43 Ford
In one of the organization's most anticipated moments in its history, Richard Petty Motorsports announced today Wallace Jr. as the new driver of the No. 43 made famous by team co-owner, "The King" Richard Petty. Wallace, 24, will compete full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and for the Sunoco Rookie of The Year beginning at the 2018 Daytona 500, Richard Petty Motorsports PR reports.
Analysis:
The rumored move was made official Wednesday. RPM named Wallace the new driver of the team's No. 43 Ford for the 2018 season, replacing the departing Aric Almirola. Wallace got some spot starts earlier this season in relief of the injured Almirola. The young driver impressed with two Top-15 and three Top-20 finishes in those four starts. He'll be a top contender for Rookie of the Year honors next season.
