Arsene Wenger says Gibbs suffered hip injury during Saturday's victory
The trend of Arsenal players going down with injuries continued Saturday after Kieran Gibbs prematurely left his club's match against Sunderland.
Gibbs was seen wincing in the moments before he was substituted. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger later revealed the defender suffered a hip injury.
Scans on the joint will presumably take place in the coming days to determine the severity of the injury. A timetable for his return is yet to be determined.
A prolonged spell on the sidelines could see Hector Bellerin, who replaced Gibbs in Saturday's match, make a bigger impact on the squad with regular playing time.
Injuries to Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy could also force some members of the squad to play out of position if Gibbs is forced to miss an extended period of time.
Calum Chambers, who's capable of playing multiple defensive positions, is already compensating for the loss of Debuchy at right back. Nacho Monreal appears to be the likely candidate to replace Gibbs on the left. A pairing of Per Merteseacker and Bellerin could feature at centre back.
