Lampard not getting ahead of himself over potential of extended stay at Manchester City

Frank Lampard is aware of the rumblings in England, but knows that it's entirely up to him to land an extended stay at Manchester City.

The 36-year-old midfielder, on loan at the club from nascent MLS side New York City FC, is scheduled to return to the United States in January. But his steady run of impressive performances with the Citizens, which included a goal against former team Chelsea, have led some to suggest that the veteran has earned the opportunity to extend his stay in Manchester.

Lampard himself is trying not to get too carried away by such talk.

"The temptation is to not get ahead of myself in my career," he told the Manchester Evening News. "I am here until Jan. 1, basically, so I will focus on that and see what happens then.

"There has been a lot said about when the season starts, but the only thing that can decide my future is how well I am playing. They will be kicking me out in January if I don't play very well!

"I am just looking game to game and trying to play as well as I can."

Now that's the answer of a veteran who doesn't want to stir the pot.
