Liverpool and striker Daniel Sturridge agreed to a new long-term contract Friday, the club announced.

Terms of the deal were not released by the club, but reports on Thursday suggested the contract will keep the English forward at Anfield until 2019.

"I am thankful for the opportunity and that is the reason I committed my future. Everyone has been great with me, from the fans to the staff to the players, so it was an easy decision. I'm happy with how everything is going," Sturridge said on the team's website.

Sturridge, who's been sidelined for the team's last six matches with a thigh strain, has one goal in three matches this season after scoring 21 during the 2013/14 campaign to lead all English scorers in the Premier League.

He played a critical in the team's impressive second place finish last season and he talked about his desire to bring silverware back to the Merseyside club.

"We were so close to success last season and it was a bitter pill to take not winning the league, but that's just a taster of what the fans will get - but hopefully this time we'll have the trophies to show for it.

"Everyone is very obsessive in terms of wanting success and being winners. That's what we are - that's the Liverpool Way."
