Aston Villa could get a scoring boost just in time for the club's toughest stretch in the Premier League calender as striker Christian Benteke nears a return to the squad.

While he'll miss this weekend's match against Chelsea, Benteke is aiming for a return to Aston Villa in time for their clash with Manchester City on Oct. 4. His impending return follows a lengthy absence caused by an Achilles injury.

"Christian is doing really well and we're hopeful of him playing some part against Manchester City," manager Paul Lambert told reporters, via the Telegraph.

"We won't be risking him against Chelsea on Saturday but another week of training should be enough to get him fully ready. It's been five months since he last played so we want to make sure he's totally right when he comes back."

Benteke, who's been out of football since suffering the Achilles injury during training in March, has been practicing with the first team for the past two weeks.

Before the injury, Benteke scored 10 goals in 24 appearances for Aston Villa. He finished in the top five of scoring the season before with 19 goals, and will be a much needed component to the Villa attack if they're able to maintain their impressive start to the season.
