Police investigating racial abuse after Mario Balotelli tweets joke about Manchester United

This is one of those instances where we're reminded of all the terrible human beings in the world.

Following Manchester United's stunning 5-3 loss to Leicester City on Sunday, Liverpool's new cult hero, Mario Balotelli, took to Twitter and sent out the following tweet.

Harmless, right?

Well, for some people, Balotelli's tweet was enough to subject the Italian striker to racist abuse, and the Merseyside Police say that they're now investigating the string of abusive responses that were sent over Twitter.

According to the Guardian, one tweet that was sent included the n-word, and concluded with: "Got eat some bananas and get ebola you dirty monkey."

This isn't the first time that Balotelli has been the victim of racist abuse. In addition to the constant heckling he received during his time with Inter Milan as well as AC Milan, he was heckled during a pre-World Cup training camp in May.

Back in July, Balotelli addressed the racist abuse he's faced throughout his career, saying: "They aren't used to seeing people who are different, not white, who act not as rebels but normally. I think what the ignorant people don't like is that people who are different are allowed to act that way. These stupid people, they get angry with me, they say horrible things, but I haven't done anything different from other people."
