Debuchy provides bleak update on injured ankle; surgery decision to be made Friday

All signs are pointing to surgery for Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy after the French international revealed the extent of the ankle injury he suffered last weekend against Manchester City.

Debuchy took to his Facebook account to update his followers:

No fracture but one broken ligament.... I have to wait until Friday in order to know if i must have surgery....

Debuchy could be sidelined longer than the initial three-month prognosis if surgery is required, meaning Hector Bellerin, 19, could see a major increase in playing time after making his first-team debut for Arsenal during their Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund.

Recalling Carl Jenkinson from West Ham could be another option for the Gunners after the young Englishman was sent to the London club on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window. However, Premier League rules prohibit a player being recalled from loan until the next transfer window, meaning Arsenal will have to find alternative options to replace Debuchy.

The team has been linked with free-agent defenders Joseph Yobo an Diego Lugano as alternative options since Calum Chambers and Nacho Monreal have also been added to the list of injured Arsenal defenders.
