Arsene Wenger believes Danny Welbeck 'will improve'

Having arrived at the Emirates Stadium with a number of question marks, Danny Welbeck has done little to ease concerns over a decline in form throughout his first two matches with Arsenal.

Six of Welbeck's eight shots in those two fixtures missed the target, and he looked overwhelmed in the Gunners' 2-0 Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

That being said, Arsene Wenger is sticking by his new £16-million signing and believes the club need to be "patient" with Welbeck as he settles into his new club.

"Danny will improve, I don't think we have to make a problem of that," Wenger told the Guardian. "He had a very lively first half. He had two or three good chances but couldn't finish them. There was one obvious one. We have to be patient with him. The paradox of the night is that we had very good chances to score first, but they then scored from counterattacks."

It's hard to know what Wenger means by "very good chances to score first" as Dortmund had created 10 chances by the time Arsenal registered their first.
