Gary Neville is 'struggling to work out the logic' of why Manchester United sold Danny Welbeck

If you've ever seen Gary Neville do analysis for Sky Sports, you're surely aware that he's an intelligent man. A very intelligent man.

However, there's one thing that Neville seems unable to figure out: why did Manchester United sell Denny Welbeck to rival Arsenal for $28.4 million?

Wednesday saw the former United captain launch an aggressive attack on Louis van Gaal's side for selling Welbeck, describing the move as "strange" and saying that he's "struggling to work out the logic."

"It's not the way I would expect United to go about their business; I though it would be more controlled," Neville told TalkSport, via the Guardian. "I can't work it out and I know I worked with Danny Welbeck last week, but it's odd. I have to admit I thought the Danny Welbeck sale was a strange one, but that's just me.

"Of all the prices paid this summer, there are right-backs and left-backs galore who have been bought for £14 million, £15 million, £16 million. How have Arsenal got him for £16 million? I can't work it out. It has helped out a competitor because Arsenal are the team they are fighting for fourth.

"I am struggling to work out the logic, I can't understand it. It's odd in two or three ways. Falcao tipped them over the edge - it surprised and shocked everyone. How he [van Gaal] gets them in that team I don't know. How they get [Wayne] Rooney, [Angel] Di Maria, RVP [Robin van Persie], [Radamel] Falcao, [Ander] Herrera, [Adnan] Januzaj and [Juan] Mata into that team I don't know."

United, who have only earned two points from their first three Premier League fixtures this season, host Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, while Welbeck could make his Arsenal debut when the Gunners host Manchester City on Saturday.
