Joe Hart close to signing new 5-year deal with Manchester City

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart wants in on the action after seeing several of his teammates receive new long-term deals to extend their stay with the club.

Hart has already been in negotiations with the defending Premier League champions and is seeking a new five-year deal, with talks expected to resume when he returns from international duty with England, according to John Percy of The Telegraph.

Despite the struggles Hart experienced early-on during City's championship-winning season, he appears to have a firm grip on the starting job and is seeking a deal similar to the long-term agreements given to Sergio Agüero, Vincent Kompany, Edin Džeko, David Silva and Samir Nasri.

Hart briefly lost his starting job to Costel Pantilimon last year, but soon regained his form for the team's run to a second Premier League trophy in three seasons.

Questions of his proficiency were asked once again after the soft goal he allowed against Stoke City led to Manchester's first defeat of the new season. His starting role with the club, however, will be reliant on his performance in the Champions League rather than one shaky goal against Stoke.

Perhaps Manchester City will benefit from waiting on a new deal until they see how Hart performs during the team's crucial matches over the next few weeks against Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
