French television channel TF1 drops Arsene Wenger as match commentator

Thursday saw France's main commercial television channel FT1 do something that Arsenal have been reluctant to do over the last 18 years: drop Arsene Wenger.

According to Le Parisien, via the Guardian, the Arsenal manager, who has commentated on matches involving France's national team for the past 10 years as well as the occasional Champions League fixture, was "greatly surprised" upon being informed that he would no longer carry out his broadcasting duties with FT1.

However, other French media are reporting that the decision was a "joint agreement."

As the decision took effect immediately, Wenger wasn't on the mic for France's 1-0 win over Spain on Thursday.
