Arsenal officially sign Danny Welbeck from Manchester United
After a long day of mixed reports regarding his departure from Manchester United, Danny Welbeck is officially a member of Arsenal.
Monday started off with reports of Welbeck undergoing a medical at Arsenal, but the North London club then apparently denied that report, claiming it was categorically false. Shortly after, Arsenal reportedly agreed to a £16-million, long-term deal for Welbeck, and the transfer is now complete.
The arrival of the 23-year-old England international will go a long way in easing the concerns of Arsenal supporters over their lack of depth in front of goal. Although Welbeck only notched 20 goals in 90 appearances at Manchester United, that was largely due to playing out of position on the flanks or behind a centre-forward.
At the Emirates Stadium, Welbeck should get the chance to return to his natural centre-forward position as Olivier Giroud is out for the remainder of the calendar year with an ankle injury and Yaya Sanogo can't find the back of the net to save his life.
