Laurent Koscielny signs long-term contract extension with Arsenal

Arsenal have secured the services of one of their most important players for the foreseeable future, announcing that defender Laurent Koscielny has signed a "long-term" contract extension with the club.

The Frenchman did have three years remaining on his contract, but rumors were swirling that a number of teams were interested in his services and were considering a summer transfer offer. The extension, regardless of the terms, will likely include a buyout clause that will protect the Gunners from losing their best defender for a substandard fee.

"Laurent has proven himself to be an outstanding player since joining us in 2010 and has showed his quality once again this season," manager Arsene Wenger said. "I am delighted he has decided to commit his future to the Club.”

Since arriving in London from Ligue 1 club Lorient in the summer of 2010, the 28-year-old has made 163 appearances in an Arsenal shirt, more than any other player over that same time period.

"I am very proud to have reached agreement with the club on a new contract. I have enjoyed four great years at Arsenal already, and I look forward to continuing to help the team in the years to come," Koscielny said of the deal.
