Report: Tottenham in talks over Bruma steal

Tottenham Hotspur is looking to take advantage of the financial restraints and disappointing league position of Galatasaray to sign its 22-year-old winger Bruma, reports ESPN FC's Eren Sarigul.

The Turkish giant sits fourth in the Super Lig, eight points short of surprise package Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League qualification places, and even if that gap is bridged it could be denied a continental campaign due to being under the strict eye of UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.

That situation may force Galatasaray's hand when it comes to offloading Bruma, who is also believed to be demanding double his annual salary of €1.2 million if he's to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2018.

Given the various elements working against Galatasaray's resolve to keep the Portuguese star, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be driving a hard bargain - something characteristic of his approach since becoming Tottenham chief in 2001. This has resulted in talks between the two clubs stuttering since January, as the Istanbul outfit still desperately tries to reach a contract agreement with Bruma.

The Guinea-Bissau-born flank wanderer hit the ground running at Galatasaray after spending last season on loan at Real Sociedad. In 24 league appearances, he's contributed eight goals and six assists while showing that he's adept on either side of an attack. He cost his current employer £9.35 million to tempt from Sporting Lisbon in 2013.

Bruma's versatility could be valuable in Mauricio Pochettino's fluid tactics at Tottenham, and would simultaneously offer competition to the injury-plagued Erik Lamela, seldom-used 22-year-old Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, and the increasingly important Heung-Min Son.
