Kylian Mbappe, Gabriel Jesus, Christian Pulisic, and Gianluigi Donnarumma are among nearly 100 emerging football talents shortlisted for Tuttosport's annual Golden Boy award.

The distinction, which was established by the Italian sports paper in 2003, recognises footballers under the age of 21 who have impressed during the calendar year while plying their trade in Europe's top tiers. The prize is voted upon by journalists from 11 European publications including Bild (Germany), L'Equipe (France), and Marca (Spain).

Defending winner Renato Sanches has made the list again despite an erratic maiden campaign at Bayern Munich, joining several fellow Bundesliga talents. Unsurprisingly, Borussia Dortmund leads the way with five nominees, with Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor, Felix Passlack, and Alexander Isak listed alongside U.S. international Pulisic.

An expansive list that includes several fringe footballers playing in Europe's less heralded divisions, the most notable omissions are Arsenal attacker Alex Iwobi, Nigeria international mate Kelechi Iheanacho, and Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman. All three were finalists for the award a year ago.

Here's a look at the nominees for the 2017 Golden Boy award:
