Charlton Athletic pays tribute to officer killed in Westminster attack

Charlton Athletic has revealed the Metropolitan Police officer who was killed in Wednesday's terrorist attack in London was a "loyal" season-ticket holder and a "familiar face" at The Valley.

The League One side draped a scarf over police constable Keith Palmer's seat, which he "occupied for many years," as a personal tribute.

Palmer, 48, was unarmed and standing guard at the Palace of Westminster, mere yards away from Big Ben, when the attacker tried to gain entry. Palmer was fatally stabbed by the assailant, who killed two other people and injured 29 more after driving through the sidewalk of nearby Westminster Bridge.

"It is with great sadness that the club has learned of the tragic news of the death of PC Keith Palmer, a loyal Charlton supporter and season-ticket holder, who lost his life as a result of the terror incident in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon," read a club statement. "Keith was a familiar face at The Valley to many supporters and sat in his same East Stand seat for many years."

Charlton said the red and white scarf would remain on his seat until the Addicks' next home fixture on April 4, and would determine how it can "commemorate his life at the game itself."
