A trio of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Roma defender Antonio Rudiger as the summer transfer window approaches.

Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United are said to be interested in the possibility of procuring the Germany international's services in an effort to boost their respective back lines, according to Peter O'Rourke of ESPN FC.

Chelsea has previously been linked with the 24-year-old, who is signed through 2019, until a knee injury scuppered the club's plans last summer ahead of Euro 2016. The Premier League leader is believed to have also considered a move during the January transfer window.

Both Manchester clubs have expressed an interest as they attempt to upgrade their defences with a versatile defender such as Ruduger, who's proven he can transition between half and full back positions.

O'Rourke adds that, while Roma is averse to letting Rudiger leave, the central defender is understood to be open to a transfer to England.

Rudiger, who arrived at Roma from VFB Suttgart in 2015 in a transfer reportedly worth €4 million, didn't play his first game until October after recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Since returning, he's started 17 matches for a Roma side that sits eight points back of Serie A leader Juventus in second place.
