Sturridge set for talks with Klopp as Liverpool future grows cloudy

Daniel Sturridge's time at Liverpool could be on the wane.

The oft-injured, seldom-used striker is set for talks with manager Jurgen Klopp to determine if he has a future at Anfield, with the German bench boss confirming the two will sit down come season's end.

Sturridge, 27, has started a scant five Premier League matches this season; though clearly talented when fit, the Englishman has played second fiddle to Klopp's preferred attacking trio of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.

Divock Origi, meanwhile, is often Klopp's first choice off the bench.

Sturridge - who's made just nine total Premier League appearances this season - still has over two years remaining on the five-year deal he inked with the Reds in 2014, but Klopp admitted Tuesday a discussion over the player's future will be necessary once the campaign is over.

"I have no idea what happens in the summer. It is not only Daniel but a lot of players," the typically cheerful gaffer said, as quoted by the Guardian.

"Daniel was not in training for eight or nine days because of a virus infection. We have to bring him back to the best shape possible and then bring this season to an end as successfully as possible.

"Then we will make decisions and speak about Daniel and any other players about what will happen at the end of the season."

Klopp added: "A lot of things will influence this and we can speak about it when it is time."

Should he be deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, the Telegraph's John Percy reports Sturridge, who joined the club from Chelsea for £12 million in January 2013, would garner interest from West Ham, Stoke City, and a host of Chinese sides.

The Merseyside outfit would "demand around £30 million" for his services, according to Percy.
