Look: Jubilant Rooney leads League Cup celebration

Wayne Rooney may have just lifted his last trophy as a member of Manchester United.

Poised to come on late Sunday in the League Cup final thriller against Southampton, club captain Rooney was forced to cede his substitute's spot to Marouane Fellaini after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late header cemented a frenetic 3-2 win for the Red Devils.

Amid talk of a summer exit after and a February move to China that wasn't to be, Rooney, 31, is staring down the barrel at the end of a decorated 14-year tenure with the club.

With a contract that expires in 2019 and with a scant eight starts in the Premier League this season, Rooney doesn't appear to be part of Jose Mourinho's long-term plans.

Both England and United's all-time leading scorer, Sunday's League Cup conquest is Rooney's third to go with five Premier League titles, four Community Shields, an FA Cup title, and the 2007-08 Champions League crown.

Considering Mourinho's lot are favourites to win the Europa League title, Rooney may still lift his 15th Manchester United trophy. Not half bad that.
