Report: Chelsea, Costa in advanced talks over new contract

The chances of Diego Costa moving to China appear to be dwindling as the Chelsea forward engages in talks over a new contract to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Costa is in the advanced stages of negotiations with Chelsea officials to extend his contract, sources tell Paul Vinnell of Sky Sports. His current deal is set to expire in 2019.

It appeared Costa was on the verge of leaving Chelsea in January after he was allegedly involved in a dispute with manager Antonio Conte at the team's training base.

The 28-year-old was also linked with a move to China's Tianjin Quanjian, and was dropped the from the team soon after the altercation with Conte.

However, Conte insisted Costa's absence was due to a back injury.

The pair seemingly settled their reported differences and the former Atletico Madrid forward was inserted back into Chelsea's first team before the winter transfer window closed.

Costa looks as though he's on his way to leading Chelsea in scoring for a third consecutive season in the Premier League after finding the back of the net 15 times in 23 matches this term.
