Feed the Yak and he will score.

Former Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, and Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni, 34, will make his seventh stop in English football at Coventry City after the Nigerian impressed on trial with the reeling third-tier outfit.

"We're pleased to have secured the signing of Yakubu, who brings vast experience and a terrific goal record," said manager Russell Slade of the veteran who penned a contract until the end of the season.

"His professional career speaks for itself, having scored consistently at the highest level of English football, and will act as a superb role model for the younger players."

Coventry, currently bottom of League One after years plagued by ownership and financial issues, is the second-lowest scoring club in the division. The Sky Blues' support will be hoping for some respite from their recent dour history when they meet either Luton Town or Oxford United in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley on April 1.

Perhaps the rocket right foot of artilleryman Yakubu, who also turned out for Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers, and Reading in England, can help bring a positive outlook to Coventry, which hasn't finished in the top six of any league since 1970. The forward, who last played professionally for Kayserispor in Turkey, cost Everton a then-club record £11.25 million in 2007.

"He is astute on the ball, has clear quality and presence, and we'll continue to work on his match fitness as we prepare for the final 16 games of this season," Slade added.
