Toure: 'We shouldn't get too excited' about Jesus

One of Manchester City's elder statesmen has noted caution about the hype surrounding teenage sensation Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian, who arrived from Palmeiras in January, has notched three goals and two assists in just three starts, but Yaya Toure doesn't want the 19-year-old to be distracted by the mass excitement over his potential.

"He is a very good player; very quick, sharp and clever. We realise we have to be careful, though, and we shouldn't get too excited because he has to be focused," Toure, 33, told Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas of the £27-million new boy.

"What we want to do is just continue to keep going and, at the end of the season, we can talk about him."

Since Pep Guardiola took over Manchester City last summer, he has looked to the future with his transfer business. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Marlos Moreno, both of whom were 19, were acquired in the summer and swiftly shipped out on loan, while John Stones, 22, and 21-year-old Leroy Sane are making instant impressions in the first team.

"We need to have young players because City are always a team who wants to win the league. The mentality of the club is to try to get new players in and try to do as best as possible," Toure continued.

"When you see Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Jesus, Sane and Raheem Sterling playing well, you realise we have a great squad with some young players."

With 14 matches remaining and 10 points between City and table-topping Chelsea, lifting the Premier League trophy may be beyond reach for Toure and Jesus. Both, however, are likely to be called upon for Monday's trip to Bournemouth as Guardiola's lot looks to wrap up a Champions League berth.
