West Brom accepts Stoke approach for Berahino

West Bromwich Albion agreed a deal with Stoke City on Friday for the sale of Saido Berahino.

The transfer fee starts at £8 million, eventually rising to £15 million depending on clauses written into the deal, reports BBC Sport's Pat Murphy.

There is some debate over the cost of Berahino's sale, with The Telegraph's John Percy reporting it to be worth an initial £10 million.

Berahino is now set to discuss personal terms with Stoke and conduct a medical.

The former England Under-21 international was angling for a move to Tottenham Hotspur 18 months ago, but the Baggies chose to grant his wish this time around with his contract expiring in June.

Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Watford, and Newcastle United are other clubs that courted the 23-year-old.

Stoke's interest has endured over the past three transfer windows, and the sale marks a rapid change of fortunes after manager Mark Hughes expressed his frustration over the lack of progress in talks earlier Friday.

"I said last week that I was more confident that something would be done, but the last few days things haven't really progressed as we would have liked," Hughes told Reuters.

Murphy writes that West Brom chairman John Williams, who succeeded Jeremy Peace in the role last summer, deserves credit for reviving a deal when the striker could've left for free or a sum decided by tribunal when his contract finishes at the end of the season.

Percy believes West Brom tabled a £60,000-a-week contract to encourage Berahino to stay, but the Potters' approach was too good to refuse.
