Report: City to target Tottenham's Rose as part of major overhaul

Pep Guardiola's reported plans to overhaul Manchester City's roster in the summer will include the pursuit of Tottenham and England defender Danny Rose.

Despite Tottenham's expected reluctance to part ways with Rose, the left-back has emerged as a top City target, according to Jonathan Smith of ESPNFC.

Upgrading his squad could lead to a major shake-up on the defensive front, with reports suggesting Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Aleksandar Kolarov, and Vincent Kompany could depart the club as Guardiola looks to make up to six changes once the summer transfer window opens.

Rose has been a hallmark in north London since he was given a chance at regular playing time in 2014 following several loan stints. His encouraging form has earned him both a call-up to the English national team, as well as a new five-year contract which he signed in September.

If a move for Rose fails, Guardiola has reportedly placed Southampton right-back Ryan Bertrand high on his list of targets, along with Saints centre-back Virgil Van Dijk.

Both Rose and Bertrand may be particularly attractive options considering they would fill homegrown player slots.

Along with defensive reinforcements, Matt Law and James Ducker of The Telegraph report that City is eager to add a midfielder and a forward when the season concludes.
