A dominant first half was enough for Ghana.

On Tuesday, Ghana scraped together a 1-0 victory over Uganda at the Africa Cup of Nations to go top of Group D. Andre Ayew converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute to score the fixture's lone goal, surpassing his father's tally of six all-time goals at African football's most prestigious tournament.

The match was a tale of two halves. Ghana commanded the first 45 minutes and should have entered the interval up by more than one goal, as Christian Atsu constantly threatened from the right side of the pitch. But, in the second half, Uganda improved significantly. Had it not been for some wasteful shots and crosses, the Black Stars may not have left Stade de Port Gentil with three points.

Ghana's win marked its 51st in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, a tally no country can claim to match.
