Report: Guardiola plotting City overhaul; targeting Bertrand, Aubameyang

A relaxing summer after Pep Guardiola's first season at Manchester City doesn't appear to be on the horizon.

On the heels of a decisive 4-0 loss to Everton in which Guardiola surrendered that his team was no longer in the title race, the Spanish manager is planning a major roster overhaul that could result in as many as six changes, according to Matt Law and James Ducker of The Telegraph.

Guardiola, however, could begin laying the groundwork in the final weeks of the winter transfer window in an attempt to reduce the summer workload.

Upgrades to the back line are believed to be his primary area of focus after City conceded 26 goals in 21 matches - the worst mark among the Premier League's top seven teams.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand is reportedly high on Guardiola's list of targets, with the English international providing both an upgrade at left-back, as well as filling a homegrown player slot. Centre-back Virgil Van Dijk is also expected to attract interest.

Along with Bertrand, Law and Ducker understand that Guardiola will target another full-back, along with a pair of centre-backs, a midfielder, and a forward.

It's just a matter of time before Gabriel Jesus is added to the attacking unit after arriving from Brazilian side Palmeiras in December, but City isn't expecting the 19-year-old to be the answer up front right away.

The club is said to be keen pursuing Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following the Gabon forward's impressive scoring output over the past few seasons. Completing a move for Aubamayang won't come cheap, as Dortmund isn't expected to sell unless offers meet its €70-million valuation.

With a slew of arrivals expected, City will also have plenty of decisions to make with regards to cutting ties with current players, some of whom have played crucial roles during the team's rise to prominence over the past decade.

Yaya Toure, Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Aleksandar Kolarov, Joe Hart (currently on loan with Torino), Vincent Kompany, and Jesus Navas are some of the important figures during City's two Premier League triumphs that Law and Ducker say could be headed for the exits.

Loanees Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony, and Eliaquim Mangala also face uncertain futures at the club.
