Giroud: My scorpion-kick goal is better than Mkhitaryan's
Arsenal ace Olivier Giroud would be forgiven for feeling slightly cheated following his incredible scorpion-kick goal against Crystal Palace. His effort, a rarity in the world of soccer, came just one week after Henrikh Mkhitaryan did the same for Manchester United against Sunderland.
As such, the French and Armenian attackers shared in the marvel of their respective jaw-dropping strikes, but for Giroud, who scored his second, the goal did nothing but draw comparisons and, subsequently, a touch of humour.
"(My teammates) were teasing me, saying that the Mkhitaryan one was better!" Giroud said of his goal, as quoted by Sky Sports. "It's crazy that two similar goals were scored in one week. I don't know if I got inspired, it's destiny."
While the two scored similar goals, Giroud's was made a touch more impressive, as Mkhitaryan's, despite being allowed, seemed to be offside. And, if you ask the French forward, his was the superior effort, regardless.
"He did very well as well, but I think mine is better!" Giroud said. "But to be serious it was funny in the dressing room, we were all surprised by what happened."
