Danny Welbeck's eight-month wait is over.

After going down with a serious knee injury in May, the Arsenal striker made his first appearance of the season when he entered Saturday's FA Cup encounter against Preston North End in the second half.

The 26-year-old has been out of action since May when he damaged cartilage in his knee during Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

He was initially expected to be out for nine months, but the 26-year-old has managed to regain fitness a month ahead of schedule.

Moments after Welbeck entered the match, Arsenal grabbed a dramatic winner when Olivier Giroud scored in the final minutes to secure the north London side's place in the fourth round with a 2-1 victory.
