Sanchez, Ozil talks 'looking pretty good,' says Arsenal general secretary

Arsenal general secretary David Miles has admitted that contract negotiations with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are progressing well.

That should momentarily quell the concerns of Gunners faithful distressed by the potential loss of the attacking tandem. Both players are out of contract when their current deals expire in 18 months' time.

Much has been made of the wage demands of Sanchez and Ozil, prompting worries that a characteristically stingy Arsenal would be unwilling to meet their lucrative demands.

Miles says not so fast.

"Of course, we know talks are ongoing with certain players and certain contracts," Miles told BT Sport, courtesy of the Evening Standard's Vaishali Bhardwaj.

"At the moment, things are looking pretty good in that way."

And breathe.

Just a few years removed from selling the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie, Arsenal is desperate to keep hold of the pairing responsible for 22 goals and 13 assists in all competitions this season amid speculation linking both Sanchez and Ozil with some of the continent's biggest sides.

While Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already admitted that he's certain the pair will extend their deals, there's no word yet if the Frenchman is looking to make any further additions during the January window.

Miles admits that it's the gaffer's call.

"Obviously that’s Arsene’s domain, and it’s in very safe hands," Miles added. "I know he’s already looking for opportunities to strengthen the squad."
