Bolasie to undergo knee surgery for serious ligament concern

Everton summer signing Yannick Bolasie is set to undergo knee surgery after the pacey winger suffered a serious ligament injury during Sunday's come-from-behind draw with Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Bolasie, who joined the Toffees in the summer from Crystal Palace, has appeared in 13 league matches this season, pairing a goal with four helpers for Ronald Koeman's mid-table lot.

The Merseysiders announced the news Monday with a tweet after the Democratic Republic of Congo international was forced off in the 68th minute for Enner Valencia. Tough luck for the Toffees after first-choice Seamus Coleman limped off moments before Bolasie's exit.

Though Everton has not announced a timetable for Bolasie's return, it is his second serious injury in successive campaigns after a disrupted calf muscle saw the 27-year-old Lyon-born speed merchant miss 11 matches last season for the Eagles.

Without Bolasie, Belgian international Kevin Mirallas is likely to play a bigger role in Koeman's squad. Bolasie's absence could also see more time for Gerard Deulofeu, who has made just three league starts for the Dutchman.

Bolasie's injury will have negative consequences for both club and country, with the 31-time capped international's participation in DR Congo's African Cup of Nations campaign in January now also at risk.
