Report: Liverpool hopes to offload Sakho in January

Mamadou Sakho's days as a Red are numbered.

Following Jurgen Klopp's admission that the French defender has no future at Liverpool while he's in charge, the Merseyside outfit will intensify its efforts to sell Sakho once the January transfer window opens, Andy Hunter of the Guardian reports.

Sakho, who put pen to paper on a five-year contract in September 2015, has had a forgettable 2016. His season was cut short last term when it was alleged that he had a banned substance in his system during a Europa League tie.

The case was later dismissed due to insufficient evidence, but the drama didn't end there - Klopp dropped Sakho during Liverpool's preseason tour in the United States after a breach of team rules.

Although the Premier League side's efforts to sell him last summer were unsuccessful, Hunter reports that Liverpool won't have a problem finding interested suitors in January as West Brom, Nice, and several Serie A teams could be ready to submit an offer for the 26-year-old.

In the meantime, Sakho will continue to train with Liverpool's under-23 team as Klopp left the door open for his departure after insisting members from the first team won't be offloaded in the new year.

"Now you know, I said it: He is not in these plans for the first team," Klopp said ahead of Liverpool's match against Bournemouth on Sunday. "The first-team squad is here (at the training ground). Do you really think I would have said Sakho will not be sold in winter? Nothing changed. Once again this actual first-team squad is in this dressing room, from this point of view nobody will be sold."

Liverpool hasn't missed Sakho thus far: The club enters the weekend in second place with 30 points through 13 matches.
