On-loan United striker James Wilson out with ACL injury

Manchester United youngster James Wilson will require months of treatment and rehabilitation after suffering an ACL injury earlier this week.

The 20-year-old, who is currently on-loan to Championship side Derby County, damaged his ACL in a training session and returned to United for further tests.

The Red Devils confirmed the severity of the injury Friday.

"It's incredibly disappointing news that James has suffered an injury like this," Derby boss Steve McClaren told the club's official website. "Only last week, I was saying how much I was looking forward to working with him because he is an exciting young talent. I know that he will bounce back from this disappointment, especially as well as being a very good player, he is also a strong and determined character."

Wilson made just three Championship starts to begin his season-long loan spell, although McClaren's return to the Derby bench could have meant more opportunities for the player.

He pounced onto the football scene at Old Trafford with a two-goal performance on his debut in May 2014.
