Mourinho refuses to address Conte chat: Words 'were for him, not for you'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was unwilling to discuss what seemed to be a somewhat hostile conversation with Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte after his Red Devils were thumped 4-0 against his former side Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

After the final whistle, the Portuguese went to shake hands with his Italian peer, and whispered something into his ear that he didn't feel like divulging when speaking with the press.

Reports suggested Mourinho was unhappy with Conte's exuberance on the touchline, as the manic manager was imploring the Chelsea fans to make some noise as the match approached the closing minutes.

"It was fine, I was not expecting anything different here. The crowd behaved in a normal way. My words with Antonio Conte were for him, not for you," Mourinho told Sky Sports, as quoted by the BBC.

He did, however, discuss his feelings about the humbling defeat itself.

"You come with a strategy, you cannot concede a goal in the way we did," Mourinho said, referencing the goal that Pedro scored after just 30 seconds.

"We were coming to have an offensive approach, we wanted to create chances, we showed that after the 1-0. The second and the third were counter-attack goals. If we score a goal like we almost did for the 2-1 the game would be different.

"It is one of those days when you give the advantage to opponents by doing nothing."

Chris Smalling and Daley Blind were at fault for the opening tally, and the former was also left for dead by N'Golo Kante for the final nail in the coffin. While he wasn't mentioned by name, Mourinho did bemoan the individual errors that led directly to Chelsea goals.

"We made incredible defensive mistakes, individual mistakes, and you pay for that."
